We are pleased to offer something truly unique: Mid-century meets Desert Modern. This post-war modern home was recently updated by one of the best desert modern architects we know, Wendell Burnette FAIA.
Originally built by mid century architect Ralph Haver, this home is located in Marlen Grove, THE quintessential Haver neighborhood in North Central Phoenix. In desiring to honor the history of these unique designs, the owner called on Wendell Burnette Architects to create a thoughtful update to this home.
The architect reorganized the plan, creating an open kitchen, elegant baths, and an even more harmonious relationship to the outdoors. Expansion of the roof line in mimicry of the original offers repetition of form, and the addition of clerestory windows, clear glass and abundant skylights balance the natural light.
Subtle white on white decor, concrete floors restored to their original leather color, and Euro-style cabinetry create a simple and calm backdrop to modern living. Steel framed dark anodized windows and doors accent the perforations and crisp the visual line.
At the entry, landscape architects Colwell Shelor created a space that balances the desert with the irrigated history of the area. The steel bench adds drama and convenience while drawing the eye to the home. The area, Marlen Grove, was just that: a former white grapefruit citrus orchard in which Haver developed just 73 homes. Today, it offers a wonderful North Central Location with access to all. In 2020, this home was featured in a 13 page article published in Phoenix Home & Garden.
Highest quality architectural details are used judiciously, keeping the spaces uncluttered and open fitting for this exclusive design-oriented neighborhood. The attention to detail in this home makes it a minimalist’s dream come true – we think you will want to call this one home.
